Obituary: Michael L. Jackson, 48, of Summerville, SC, formerly of Woodhull, NY
Michael L. Jackson, 48, of Summerville, SC, formerly of Woodhull, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Born in Hornell, NY on December 17, 1972, Mike was the son of Stephen W. and Betty L. (Guild) Jackson. He attended school in Jasper before transferring to Canisteo Central School from where he graduated.
Mike was a jack of all trades but spent most of his adult life as a self employed logger. Over the years he built and operated two sawmills, owned an auto body repair shop and, with his brother Stacy as his partner, built and operated a go kart track in Woodhull. Mike had also worked alongside his father in his carpentry business.
Other than family, the greatest love in Mike’s life was dirt auto racing. Starting in 1991, driving for his father and brother, to wheeling cars for many owners through the years, Mike raced all classes of dirt racers throughout the Northeast. He had even been the promoter at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee. For the last couple years he had developed a love for sprint cars and had recently been named Driver of the Year in the Carolina Sprint Tour. If it had wheels, Mike would race it.
Mike and his longtime partner, Holly Jo Card were married on November 27, 2020 in Canandaigua, NY. Holly survives him. Also surviving are his children, Kristianna Jackson, Tyler Mack and Hannah Jackson, his step children, Samantha Davis, Alexis Salamone and Brayden Brant, his mother, Betty Bossard, his brother, Stacy Jackson and his sister, Aletha Jackson. Mike also leaves behind many grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends and racing associates.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Stephen W. Jackson on April 2, 2016.
A Celebration of Life to honor Mike will be organized and held at a later date.
