Wyoming County COVID-19 update 4/1/2020

PRESS RELEASE
April 01, 2020 @ 2:00 p.m. Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors, Jerry L. Davis, reports:

As of earlier today, April 1st, Wyoming County Health Department reports the following: Eleven (11) lab confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 among Wyoming County residents have been reported to the Health Department. The two (2) new positive COVID-19 cases reside at the Wyoming County Community Health System’s Skilled Nursing Facility.

From Dr. Greg Collins, Wyoming County Commissioner of Health, "The Health Commissioners and Public Health Directors of the eight counties of Western New York have agreed in principle on a uniform manner to share information with the public about COVID-19 cases in our respective counties going forward. As local health officials, we know it is imperative to share information that will help prevent the spread of this virus while also protecting the privacy and well-being of individuals. Many people are asking why details of positive cases in Wyoming County are not being released to the public. Health Department staff is following up on all positive lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wyoming County, including issuing quarantine and isolation orders, and conducting contact tracing. Details such as age, gender, township, employer, travel history within Wyoming County/WNY and details of close contacts will not be released, unless there is a clear and compelling reason to do so that will protect the public’s health. I understand people want information to help keep them, and their families safe, but details of the positive cases provide no assurances. To be clear, COVID-19 is circulating in Wyoming County and just because you didn’t visit a particular location does not mean that you haven’t been exposed."

The Wyoming County Community Health System, Health Department and Emergency Services are still in desperate need of N-95 or procedure style mask, nitrile gloves, and protective gowns. If you have any of these supplies and are able to donate them please contact OEM@wyomingco.net or call the Health Department at (585) 786-8890.
