State Police warn citizens of a new scam

State Police are urging citizens to be vigilant when strangers, specifically on-line, are attempting to have individuals send them money.  The latest scam in the region is threatening to release private information to the public that may be embarrassing.  These scam artists are asking for payments in Bit Coins, and say that if you don’t pay in 24 hours, private - embarrassing information will be shared with their family and friends. The email contains personal information, sometimes the victim’s password or a password similar to their actual password. These emails are fake, do not send any money.  In most cases, ignore the email and change the password to your account.  Do not open any links that you are not familiar with. If you have lost money in a scam, contact police.
