Obituary: Dakota Lane Copeland, 21, Wayland-Cohocton graduate

Dakota Lane Copeland, 21, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 10, 2020. Dakota was born June 11, 1998 in Dansville, a son of Elizabeth Kalpin & Michael Mayer of Springwater, pre-deceased by his biological father, Keith G. Copeland. Dakota attended and graduated from Wayland-Cohocton School and Livingston County Boces, achieving his Conservation Certificate. Dakota taught himself how to play guitar at the age of 12, he had a natural talent. He had a strong passion for his music, spending hours playing in his room, and enjoyed recording videos of himself playing the guitar. He also enjoyed hanging out with friends and playing Xbox with his brother. He would always try and outsmart you and make wisecracks whenever he had the chance, but he also had a huge heart.

In addition to his parents, Dakota is also survived by his brother, Wyatt Mayer and his sister, Serenity Mayer; he was a grandson of Laura (Kalpin) Keough of Wayland, and Clarence (Joleen) C. Parsons Jr. of Ohio, originally of Springwater and Mary VanLare of New Mexico. He has two great-grandmothers, Mary Ann (Brodzinski) Anderson of Springwater and Barbara Parsons of Groveland; also, survived by his great-uncles, John Kalpin of Springwater, and Mark Parsons of Conesus; his great-aunts, Carol (Tom) Rossmann and Mary Parsons all of Springwater; other uncles include, Thomas (Melissa) Fires Jr. of Groveland, Hunter Keough of Wayland, and several aunts, Becky Howell of Colorado, Kara Keough of Wayland, Ashley, Jillian, and Evelyn Parsons of Ohio (originally of Springwater), Lindy (Chip) Stone and Wendy Guffy all of Cohocton and a step-grandmother, Jennel Justus of Penfield; and many cousins and friends.

Dakota was pre-deceased by his great-grandfather's, Clarence C. Parsons Sr. and Jack “John” Kalpin both of Springwater, his grandfather, Gerald Bowen of Wayland, and great aunts, Joan Baird of North Carolina and Lori Parsons of Springwater.

Services are being planned and will be announced.
