Foundation Funds Support Local Libraries

The Allegany County Area Foundation (ACAF) recently presented grants to the Andover, Friendship, and Scio libraries. This support came from designated funds – endowments that have been set up for the benefit of these specific organizations.
Scio Memorial Library receives annual support from the Hydramec Fund, Friendship Free Library from the Susan Foster Myers Fund, and the Andover Free Library from the Doris O. Church Fund and the Fund for the Andover Free Library. The latter was established last year, and this marks the first distribution from this new endowment.
The libraries use this annual assistance for collections, facilities and programming. Echoing sentiments shared by all three library directors, Friendship’s Michelle Hill notes “We are always grateful when the community remembers their local libraries.”
With almost 10 million dollars in assets, ACAF manages a variety of funds and welcomes gifts, which are tax-deductible, including memorials for friends and loved ones.
