NEWS: Starting Sunday - Scio Church Schedules Children's Concert and Other Holiday Events

Violinist Grace Keir, standing, and her sister, Nora, a cello player, of Belmont, prepare for the free Saturday, November 30, children Christmas Concert to be held at Knights Creek Church at Scio.  Students of David Peralta, left, church music missionary and a member of the Simon Bolivar Venezuelan National Symphony Orchestra, have been receiving free music lessons as part of the church's community music ministry outreach to area children, with students performing during the event.
SCIO -- A local church has scheduled several free community events for the Thanksgiving to Christmas holidays season, including a Thanksgiving dinner, children's Christmas concert, Christmas Tree Trimming Party for youth and adults, Christmas Caroling, and its traditional Christmas Day service.
Knights Creek Church, at 2987 Knights Creek Road (County Road 9), will provide a Thanksgiving dinner for community residents following its 11 a.m. Sunday morning worship service on November 24.  The service is preceded from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. by a weekly Experiencing God - Knowing and Doing the Will of God DVD/discussion series by international Bible teacher and author Henry Blackaby.
The church also hosts a free Community Dinner each Sunday after its morning service.
The Christmas Tree Trimming Party will be at 7 p.m. Friday, November 29, with adults joining the church's weekly children, youth and young adults gatherings to trim a Christmas tree and decorate the church, listen to music and enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and refreshments as it prepares for the next afternoon's children's concert.
The Saturday, November 30, music event will be held at 3 p.m., with community children and youth, who have been taking lessons from church music missionary David Peralta, a member of the Simon Bolivar Venezuelan National Symphony Orchestra, providing Christmas music.
The children, from four Allegany County communities, are part of the church's free outreach to help equip young people in music appreciation.  Peralta, a world-class musician, has played with the orchestra before the Queen of England, now King of Spain, at international music festivals, the Latin Grammys, Carnegie Hall in New York City and national venues in the United States and some 25 countries of the world.
Christmas caroling at community residential facilities, accompanied by Peralta, will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Belmont and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Wellsville on Friday, December 13, with adults once again joining church children, youth and young adults for the activity.
The church's traditional Christmas Day service will be held at 10 a.m., with music by Peralta and communion.
