Folklore says the woolly bear caterpillar can predict the
severity of the winter simply by the length of the red-orange band at the
center of its body. Basically, the more red-orange there is the warmer the
winter and the less red-orange, the colder, more snowy the winter will be. This
little guy was found on one of the local hilltops at 9 a.m. in the morning
Thursday. It was about 29 degrees at the time. The average temperature
according to the Weather Channel, for this day in Wellsville is 44 degrees.
