Wellsville: Village Board agrees to donate meter change to charity

Each year during the holidays, the Village of Wellsville waives parking meter fees and no meter tickets are issued. However, between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, the village stills collects about $2,000 from people who 'feed the meter.' This year, as in past years, the Village will take the meter money and donate it to charity. Monday night, Trustee's voted to donate the 2019 collection to the Salvation Army. In 2018, the money went to the David A. Howe Public Library.
In other action from the meeting:
  • Police Chief Tim O'Grady discussion a variety of parking issues in the village. The Board reviewed permitted parking in the municipal lot off Madison Street, modification to impound fees and people that use Main Street as an all-day parking lot. Regarding the latter, Mayor Randy Shayler said "I think we need two put something in place." He added "we need to discourage village streets as a personal parking lot."
  • The Board two special event permits for the Grant Duke Hose Company. The first is the Holiday Extravaganza on December 21st from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and the second is the Spring Golf Ball Drop 2020 fund raiser to be held April 4, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
