Jeffrey Stevens named new dean of Wellsville campus

Alfred State is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Stevens, of Wellsville, is the new dean of the School of Applied Technology.
Stevens has been an Alfred State employee since 2002, when he was hired as an instructor in the Electrical Trades Department. He was later promoted to assistant professor, then associate professor.
In 2014, Stevens was appointed chair of the Electrical Trades Department, a position he held until 2017, when he was named interim dean of the School of Applied Technology.
Stevens has received several honors throughout his employment at Alfred State, including recognition in 2011 as a certified installer of solar electric systems by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. In 2012, Stevens was honored with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service, particularly for his leadership of students in designing and installing the first solar-powered irrigation system at the US National Arboretum.
Prior to being hired at Alfred State, Stevens worked as a commercial electrician from 1993 to 1996, and as an electrical service technician from 1996 to 2000. He was also the owner and operator of an electrical contracting business from 2000 to 2012.
In addition to being a longtime employee, Stevens is also an Alfred State graduate, having received his electrical construction and maintenance electrician degree and his plumbing, heating and air conditioning degree from the college. He also earned a bachelor’s in professional business studies from Empire State College.
Speaking to his new role as dean, Stevens said, “I find it a great honor to be selected as the academic and administrative leader representing the faculty and students of the School of Applied Technology. This appointment represents the opportunities for success that are available to every Alfred State graduate. To have a part in strengthening the lives of so many students through higher education and to work alongside such gifted faculty and staff each day is truly inspiring.”
Dr. Skip Sullivan, president of Alfred State, said, “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jeff Stevens as the new dean of our Wellsville campus. Jeff has performed admirably since assuming the role on an interim basis in 2017, and has excelled in each position he has held throughout his career here at the college. Jeff’s extensive knowledge and familiarity with the Wellsville campus, along with his leadership skills and his ability to connect with and inspire students and employees alike make him an excellent fit for the position.”
Dr. Kristin Poppo, provost, said, “I am thrilled that Jeff Stevens has accepted the permanent dean position at the School of Applied Technology after serving as the interim dean for two years. As interim dean, Jeff served as a strong bridge builder, leader, and problem solver. I look forward to working with Jeff to strengthen trades education in Wellsville and across western New York.”
Stevens and his wife, Linda, are the parents of three children, Noah, Rebecca, and Sarah, and two delightful grandchildren.
