Obituary: Rena I. Cowles, 86, Cuba and formerly from Wellsville


Rena I. Cowles - Beloved Mother
Rena I. Cowles, 86, of 9076 Jackson Hill Road, Cuba, and a former resident of Wellsville, passed away, Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit after a lengthy illness.
Born on July 13, 1932, in Petrolia, she was a daughter of Howard J. and Anna Norton Trowbridge.  On August 31, 1956, in Wellsville, she married Donald K. Cowles who predeceased her.
Rena was a graduate of Wellsville Central School.  She started her working career as a telephone operator and night supervisor for the Wellsville Telephone Company and was the last operator to take a call before dial tone operations started.  She then worked as a mail carrier for the Wellsville Post Office for several years and last was employed by Jan and Bev’s Home Health Care for 14 years prior to her retirement. 
She loved camping with her husband and was part of the Shasta Camping Club, which later became the High Flyers.  She was also an avid sports fan that loved to watch all sporting events, but especially loved baseball and was a dedicated New York Mets fan.  Reading, crafts, and crossword puzzles were also some things she enjoyed.
Surviving are two daughters, Kari (William) Hurley of Chicago, IL and Cathy (Don) Adams of Cuba; three grandchildren,Nathaniel Hurley, Jody (Will) Allison, Molly (Shaun Golish) Adams, and a great granddaughter, Frankie Allison. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her siblings, Gladys Walden, Arthur Barnes, Gerald Barnes, Norton Barnes, Elizabeth Barnes, Evelyn Rhodes, Darwin Barnes, Earsol Mattison, and Francis Barnes. Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. only.
