WEST ALMOND - Michael J. Sherman, 67, of South Rd., passed away Friday (July 20, 2018) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Hornell, NY, February 25, 1951, the son of Robert and Velma (Greenfield) Sherman, he had resided in West Almond most of his life. Michael was a graduate of the Alfred-Almond Central School District. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, logging and family gatherings. He was a volunteer firefighter for Alfred Station. He served as Dog Warden and Highway Superintendent for West Almond. On October 15, 1971 he married the former Teeka VanDuser who survives.
He was predeceased by his parents, 2 grandchildren; Hunter Kolesar and Shelby Shilling, a brother; Robert Sherman and 2 sisters; Betty (Mike) Stevens and Cindy Crosby.
He is survived by his wife Teeka of West Almond, 4 daughters; Bobby Jo (Shawn) LaVerde of Fremont, Heather Robbins of N.C., Teresa Hitchcock of Alfred Station, and Shelly (Shannon) Eymer of Bishopville, a brother Leon Sherman of West Almond, 3 sisters; Roberta Sutton of S.C., Mary Lou (Dick) Kinzle of Pa. and Shirley Sherman of Canisteo, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law; Hazel Sherman of Owego, a brother-in-law; David Crosby of Canisteo as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday (July 28, 2018) from 2-4 p.m. at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held immediately following calling hours at the Almond Municipal Building, all are welcome to attend.
