Scio Church Begins Free Weekly Community Meal

A Scio church is beginning a free weekly community dinner, starting immediately.
Knights Creek Evangelical Methodist Church at 2987 Knights Creek Road (County Road 9) will host the meals following its 11 a.m. Sunday services which feature the music ministry team of The Acevado-Escribans, a Venezuelan family now residing in Allegany County, along with David Peralta, a music missionary to the church and a viola player for the Simon Bolivar Venezuelan National Symphony Orchestra.  A dish-to-pass or dessert is welcome but not necessary.
Free music lessons also are provided weekly for children, youth and adults after the dinner, with dinner attendees able to listen to the practices.  Children summer choir and orchestra camps also have been scheduled in different parts of Allegany County for six to 14-year-olds.
Pastor Carl Kemp said the new Sunday dinner initiative has evolved over the past few months, starting with a desire to use the talents and expertise of its Venezuelan music team, which has worked with a 900-member children's choir and orchestra in the jungles of that country.
Dinner then was provided for music students and their families so they could come to Knights Creek from Sunday morning services at other churches or from home.
With food already being prepared and a recognition that many elderly and other individuals and families can benefit from the dinner and fellowship, extending the dinners to a community meal was a natural, the pastor said.
Described as "The Country Church with the Heart of Christ," Knights Creek also holds a 6 p.m. service on Sundays, a Bible study at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, and community prayer from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. each weekday for anyone who has concerns for which they would like to receive prayer.
Celebrate Recovery/Celebrate Victory also is held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays for adults of all ages who are struggling with any type of hurts, hangups, habits or struggles, including common addictions, with facilitators also being part of a team that goes into Allegany County Jail on Tuesday nights to present Celebrate Recovery Inside to inmates.
