BATH - Affected departments and agencies are expected to begin moving into the Steuben County Office Building annex in early August, with only minor details left to be finished. According to plans approved by the county Legislature’s special Space Committee, the three-story annex will house the county Board of Elections offices and electronic voting machines, and records storage area for current reports on the first floor. Cornell Cooperative Extension Steuben County, a demonstration kitchen and a conference room will be located on the second floor. The conference room can be divided as needed for small meetings or left open to accommodate large group classes and training. Plans call for the third floor to remain vacant to allow for expansion as needed. Construction of the annex, on East Morris Street, and a long-term records storage facility on Mount Washington are pegged at a total cost of $8.7 million and paid for through a low-interest bond and county reserves. After a two-year study on space needs in County Office Building and its associated outbuildings, County legislators awarded bids for construction projects a little more than a year ago. The Legislature’s action came as a response to anticipated state court-related requirements. In addition, Steuben officials have been concerned for years about the lack of efficient space at the County Office Building and the inconvenience for residents looking for services. Steuben’s last capital project was the construction of the former county Health Care Facility, located on Mount Washington, which opened in June 2008.
