During his weekly media call, Congressman Tom Reed was asked about the future of the Siemen's/Dresser-Rand plant, which recently announced it would shutter it's Wellsville manufacturing operation. Despite media reports, some white collar jobs are expected to be retained. Gov. Cuomo fired off a letter to company officials asking the manufacturing facility to be spared. Here it Congressman Reed's response to ask what here is doing:
"We reached out to the Governor to work in tandem with us...We unilaterally acted to put pressure on Siemen's and others to keep these jobs there in Wellsville...and glad the Gov. issued the letter he issued to join us in putting pressure - where pressure needs to be in order to keep these jobs right there in our backyard. My understanding is...I think I have a meeting weith Dresser-Rand officials...this week, if not today, if memory serves correctly and so we're continuing to work closely with their reps of employee's involved and put pressure where pressure needs to be placed in order to save those jobs in our backyard. As people are now acting, I think you're starting to see there will be responses to that move, and uhh, stay tuned. I don't want to raise expectations in any way.
We hear that voice of those employee's and we're gonna carry that voices loud and high as we possibly can - to send a message that those jobs need to stay right where they are.
