SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Joan A. Dunshie, 93, of Shinglehouse,
passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in Cole Memorial Hospital,
Coudersport, after a short illness.
Born on April 27, 1924 in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter
of Arthur B. and Ellen Bailey Maynard.
On December 21, 1940 in Sweden Valley, she married Max V. Dunshie, who
survives.
Joan attended Shinglehouse High School. She served as a township secretary for many
years. She took great pride in her family and loved their gatherings at the
farm home. She was also an avid reader
and was very fond of the Oswayo Valley Memorial Library. In her younger years, she enjoyed knitting,
cooking, and baking. She will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
Surviving besides her husband of 77 years are two daughters,
Wanda C. (Michael) Derry of Utica, N.Y. and Pat E. McCormick of Hornell, N.Y.;
a son, Dale A. (Nadine Pollock) Dunshie of Warren; she was also blessed with
eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, now living in New Hampshire,
Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Colorado and New York; a sister, Anne Wood of St. Cloud,
Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by a
daughter, Carla S. (Martin James) Mesler; a sister, Rhea Jean Welch; and a
son-in-law, Dr. Joseph McCormick.
There will be no public visitation. A private celebration of Joan’s life will be
held at the convenience of the family.
Private graveside burial services were held in Rathbone Cemetery,
Coneville with Pastor Fred Kemp of the Potter County Baptist Church, Shinglehouse,
officiating.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and
appreciation to the staff at Cole Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for
the compassionate care given to Joan during her stay there.
