Obituary: Steve K. Ballard, 62, Franklinville

FRANKLINVILLE — Steve K. Ballard, of Franklin Street, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2017) at his home following a long illness. Born Oct. 23, 1955, in Cuba, he was the son of Elbert and Sarah Benjamin Ballard. On June 9, 1979, in Machias, he married Julie Ann Mapes. Mr. Ballard attended Fillmore Central School and had worked for the Town of Centerville Highway Dept., Arcade & Attica Railroad in Arcade, Prestolite in Arcade and Draper Trucking in Holland, each for several years. Steve enjoyed hunting, motorcycling and was a former member of the Machias Fire Dept. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Lissa (Shawn) Jennings of Franklinville, Amanda (Brandon) Knorr of Delevan; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Alberta Weichmann of Yorkshire, Cindy (Donny) Hitchcock of Humphrey; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Noah Jennings and Jordyn Knorr; a sister, Dawn Ballard; and four brothers, Douglas Ballard, Nolan Ballard, Reed Ballard, Norbert Ballard. A private family gathering will be held at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Kokenson, pastor of the Pioneer Christian Church of Arcade, celebrating his life. Interment will follow in White Cemetery in Rushford. Memorials may be made to the Franklinville Fire Dept., Ambulance Fund, 77 N. Main St. Franklinville, NY 14737.
