The Allegany County Suicide Prevention Coalition, initiated in 2012, has been recognized by the New York State Office for Mental Health Suicide Prevention Center as a rural model for its overall effectiveness, successful programming and use of professional and community-based training to build a Rural Suicide Safety-Net. Utilizing evidence-based programs the Allegany County Suicide Prevention Coalition is working to enhance awareness of suicide risk factors, warning signs, improve strategies to keep at-risk individuals safe during crisis, and formalize appropriate responses to a death by suicide. The following are upcoming trainings/events:
Suicide Bereavement Support Group(s)
The pain of grief can sometimes seem too much to bear, but with the right support and guidance, we can find the path to support, understanding and recovery. Community members are welcome to attend the following Suicide Bereavement Support Groups:

SafeTALK – Suicide Alertness for Everyone
This 3 hour workshop alerts one to warning signs indicating risk of suicide. The workshop emphasizes the importance of recognizing the signs, communicating with the person at risk and getting help or resources for the person at risk. Join us for one of the two upcoming trainings scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2017; 9:00am – 12:00pm and Monday, November 20, 2017; 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the St. Philips Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 12 Willets Avenue, Belmont, NY 14813. Suicide Postvention: Response Team Training
Join members of the Allegany County Suicide Prevention Coalition for a full-day Suicide Postvention: Response Team Training scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2017; 8:00am – 4:00pm at the Allegany County Public Safety Complex, 4884 NY State Route 19, Belmont, NY 14813. The full-day training is designed for individuals committed to providing support to community members upon the loss of an individual due to death by suicide. International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day
Survivor Day is a day when suicide loss survivors can gather together to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope. The event will include a screening of a new Survivor Day documentary produced by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Join members of the Allegany County Suicide Prevention Coalition on Saturday, November 18, 2017; 12:00pm – 3:00pm at the Cuba Cultural Center located at 38 East Main Street, Cuba, NY 14727.
