The Wellsville Elks Lodge No. 1495 is pleased to announce
that a Wellsville student, Paul Giovanniello, age 7, recently competed in and
won the New York State Elks Soccer Shoot competition for the Age 8 and under.
The competition was held on October 22nd at the Sportplex of Halfmoon, 6
Corporate Drive, Halfmoon, NY. Awards
were presented at the Clifton Park Elks Lodge No. 2466.
To progress to the New York State competition, Paul had to
compete in competitions at the Local, District, and Regional Levels. Next up
for Paul, the Area I competition on November 4th at Nashua, New Hampshire,
sponsored by the New Hampshire State Elks Association. The Elks Soccer Shoot
program consists of two different contests that test different level skills at
different ages. A "Five Goal Contest" consists of a series of five
goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches. The age groups that use
these goals are divided into two categories, U-8 contains all ages seven years
old and younger, and U-10 group contains ages eight and nine. The contest is
open to boys and girls who shoot separately. The U-8 contestants kick from 15
feet from the face of the goal, while the U-10 contestants kick from 18 feet
from the goal. The Elks Soccer Shoot Program is a terrific program for our
youth, the future of our country. Paul is the son of Paul and Lana Giovanniello
of Wellsville. The Wellsville Elks wishes Paul and his family the utmost luck
and he continues.
