Wellsville: Police looking into dead body outside Jones Memorial Hospital - 18-year-old Andover man

State Police based in Amity are investigating the arrival of a dead body outside the Jones Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Wellsville. According to Investigators, an 18-year-old man from Andover was transported to the hospital by a passenger vehicle and arrived at 4:40 p.m. Sunday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the coroner was called. State Police said the man was found deceased in the passenger seat and driven to the hospital by "a friend." Hospital staff rushed outside but determined the patient could not be resuscitated. An Investigator said the death would be considered "suspicious" until proven otherwise. There was no sign of physical trauma. The car had parked at the ER/Ambulance entrance and that area was blocked by crime scene tape as police collected evidence and reviewed the scene. The body of the teenager was transported to Olean General Hospital where an autopsy was expected to be conducted today. The car was seized by state police and towed to the Amity barracks. Wellsville police first responded, but it was quickly determined that the death occurred outside the village, possibly the county. Police would not speculate on the cause of death, saying "we investigate all unattended deaths."
State Police are still conducting interviews and would not release additional information saying the case remains an "ongoing investigation." The area outside the ambulance entrance was blocked for several hours. EMS crews were directed to use the public entrance to the ER.
