This year the Allegany County Area Foundation Dollars for
Scholars will award a total of $247,500 to 124 recipients representing all of
the high schools in Allegany County. These recipients were chosen from a total
of 248 applicants.
Caleb Holmes, a 2012 graduate of the Cuba-Rushford High
School, will be the guest speaker. He graduated from Daemen College in 2015 and
is currently a dental student at the University at Buffalo School of Dental
Medicine.

The Allegany County Area Foundation Dollars for Scholars
manages thirty different scholarships.
This year two different scholarships will be awarded for the first time.
They are the Ann Swift Memorial Nursing Scholarship and the Betty Embser
Wattenberg Community Service Scholarship.
The Ann Swift Memorial Nursing Scholarship was created by
Ellsworth Swift to honor his wife who passed away in 2014. Ann Swift had worked
for the State of North Carolina at the Caswell Developmental Center for several
years nursing mentally handicapped patients. The recipients of this scholarship
must be a graduate of the Cuba-Rushford High School who is pursuing a degree in
a nursing program.
The “Betty Embser Wattenberg Community Service Scholarship
Fund” honors Elizabeth “Betty” Embser Wattenberg who passed away in March of
2016. This scholarship has been created by her husband, Marc and her son,
Brendon. It will be awarded to a Wellsville High School senior aspiring to
become a social worker or in pursuit of a career in Community service or
healthcare related fields.
