Obituary: Janet C. Drew, 81, of Wellsville

Janet C. Drew, 81, of Wellsville, NY, died Sunday, May 26, 2024 in Wellsville Manor Care Center.  Born October 7, 1942, in Greenville, PA, she was the daughter of Frederick and Carolyn Oakley Golden Drew.  A 1961 graduate of Wellsville High School, she earned a teaching degree from Mansfield State College, where she played on the basketball team.  Jan was employed as a history teacher for 32 years, first in Horseheads and then in Wellsville.  She was a member of the Wellsville Country Club, New York State Teachers Association, Mansfield Women’s Athletic Association, and Kappa Phi Zelda Chapter Sorority.  An avid golfer, she enjoyed several golfing trips to North Carolina and Bermuda.  She traveled the world with friends on cruises to many of the places she taught about in her sixth-grade history classes.  Jan was a competitive bridge player and enjoyed playing locally and on her trips.  A dedicated Mets and Syracuse Orange fan, she tried to see their games whenever possible.   Surviving are: friends, Noreen “Renee” Briggs of Cuba and Barbara Hoagland of Wellsville and their families; and goddaughter, Susan Merkwa of Wellsville and her family.  She was predeceased by her parents.  Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.  Memorials may be made to the SPCA serving Allegany County.  Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com.
