Obituary: Robert J. “Joe” Buckpitt, 43, Canisteo
CANISTEO: Robert J. “Joe” Buckpitt, 43, of Third St. passed away unexpectedly Saturday January 16, at his home after a courageous battle with addictions. Joe was born June 17, 1977 in North Hornell to Walter “Joe” and Sharyl (Burns) Buckpitt of Canisteo.
He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1995 and furthered his education by receiving an associate’s degree in communications from SUNY Buffalo.
Joe had spent time working in the Buffalo area and Wilmington, N.C. before moving back to New York. He was currently employed as a sales clerk at Bradley Supply in Hornell where he was comfortable and was treated like family.
In addition to his parents Joe and Sharyl Buckpitt of Canisteo, Joe is survived by a sister Michelle (Brian) Vann and their children, niece and nephew, Hailee and Owen Vann, all of Muncy, Pa. along with aunts, uncles and several cousins. Genine Cappozi, of Buffalo, was a special friend to Joe and cannot go without mentioning his “sidekick” basset hound, Chumley.
Joe was kind, loving and loyal and had the best sense of humor and a strong work ethic. He will be sorely missed by all.
There will be no public calling or services. A private graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
Memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, N.Y. 14843, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
