Born on Thursday,
January 26, 1928 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of William G. and Grace M.
Goodrich Stanley. He married Estella
Moore on September 16, 1950 in the home they have resided in for the past 70
years in Ceres.
Chuck was a
graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1946. He was employed by
Worthington (now Siemens) in Wellsville, N.Y., for 39 ½ years, starting as a
yard worker and retiring as a tool and die maker.
He was a member
of the former Shinglehouse Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for 75
years, where he had served as an elder, youth leader, and Sunday school
teacher. He was a former member of the
Oswayo Valley Historical Society in Shinglehouse and a former member and former
president of the Oswayo Valley School Board in Shinglehouse. He was a member of the International
Association of Machinists Union.
Chuck’s greatest
joys were his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a friend to all he met and earned the
respect of everyone, even those who held different views than he did. He was unfailingly kind and a man of deep
integrity. Chuck was truly a Renaissance
man. He could debate deep philosophical
and theological issues with scholars and hold his own, recite poetry, and knew
something about almost every topic you could think of. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved
to play practical jokes. He loved
gardening, picking blackberries, and building beautiful items in his
woodshop. Chuck loved to rock his babies
and grandbabies and sing to them in his beautiful tenor voice. He loved to cook and bake and could bake an
apple pie that was the best around.
Surviving in
addition to his wife are four sons, Donald R. (Melanie) Stanley of Bloomsburg,
Robert M. (Belinda) Stanley of Johnstown, John K. (Sharon) Stanley of Leicester,
N.Y., and David A. Stanley of Shinglehouse; three daughters, Carol A. (Kenneth)
Stonemetz of Houghton, N.Y., Rebecca J. (Rod) Howard of Port Allegany, and

Springs; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; seven
step-grandchildren; a brother, Harry (Jacqueline) Stanley of Smethport; and

grandchildren, Stephanie Stanley, Ellen Stanley, and Andrew Stanley; a
daughter-in-law, Cheryl A. Stanley; and four brothers, Maynard, Hugh, Malon,
and William.
Private
graveside burial services will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse,
with Benjamin Howard, Chuck’s grandson, officiating.
In lieu of
