The Allegany County Sheriff's Office has once again grown beards to support the Shop with a Cop Christmas Program in Allegany County. For the past nine years the officers have contributed over $10,000.00 to the program in exchange for the privilege of growing a beard during the fall hunting season. This year the Sheriff's Office raised $1,500.00 through their beard for bucks program.
After the closing of the local K-Mart store in
Wellsville it was decided to establish a special “Shop with a Cop Fund” through
the Allegany County Area Foundation, with the money earmarked to provide
Christmas gifts to underprivileged children in Allegany County.
Sheriff Whitney stated “shop with a cop” was a great program for our area; and even though we are no longer able to actually shop with the children, we still wanted to make sure as many of them received a Christmas gift as possible.
