Project Clover Aid was started in April 2019 by a small group of Allegany County 4-H members seeking to help farmers devastated by the flooding in Nebraska. What started as a decision to make and send cards and calf blankets to fellow 4-H’ers and their families grew into a fund raising campaign to support farmers in need. With the generous support of our communities, the group was able to raise over $4,000.00 which helped a small farm family purchase gravel, seed mixtures greatly needed by the family.
Following Project Clover Aid’s efforts in helping the family in Nebraska, the 4-H’ers decided they wanted to keep Project Clover Aid going on indefinitely and they set a goal of helping farmers during times of need within a 3 hour radius of Allegany County!
At this time the 4-H’ers and their families have been very busy making cards, cookie bags and even dinners to provide to local farm families as a way to show support to those that we all depend on in so many ways. R.G. Mason Auctions and JRM Equipment played an intricate role in helping the 4-H’ers raise over $3,000 last year and they are dedicated to helping the group again this year! They have donated a 50 inch all gear drive rototiller that will be auctioned off during their Spring Extravaganza Virtual Auction on Saturday, April 25, 2020. 100% of the proceeds from this item will be donated to Project Clover Aid so the kids can continue to help our local farmers! Project Clover Aid has also partnered with Barney Farms, a local dairy farm in Allegany County to conduct a “Dairy Drive” at Whitesville Central School on April 24, 2020. Dairy bags containing milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, buttermilk, string cheese and yogurt have been put together to help 250 families during these uncertain times. In addition to dairy product, dairy product information has also been included in every bag! Many people have asked how they can help so this group can carry out more dairy drives throughout our local communities.
