John was born on Nov. 21, 1963 in Queens, N.Y. to John Alfred and Barbara Ann (O’Hare) Howe. On Nov. 29, 2013, he married Lisa Harris, who survives.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sisters, Louise Howe and Dawn Howe, both of New York City.
In many ways, John was a kind, big-hearted man. His wife Lisa described him as a “Big Teddy Bear”. He loved helping people and it was his nature to always be looking out for others. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
As a person who knew the struggle of addiction, John lent his voice and energy as an addiction recovery advocate. Through Narcotics Anonymous, his life mission was to help those who needed help.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. – noon at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home with Rev. Alan Bliss of the Hornell Free Methodist Church officiating.
