Wellsville man charged with sexually assaulting a child - bail set at $50,000 cash

Wellsville Police Tuesday afternoon arrested Jeffrey J. Howell Jr., 27,
of Wellsville, charging him with 1 count of Predatory Sexual Assault against a
child (Class A-II Felony), 1 count of Rape 1st (Class B Felony), 2 counts of
Criminal Sexual Act 1st (Class B Felony) and Sexual Abuse 1st (Class D
Felony). Lt. Josh Kear led the
investigation and told WRN the crimes occurred during the summer of 2018. The
victim, a female under the age of 13, was known to Howell. Kear confirmed that
Howell does have a criminal history, but no sexually-motivated offenses. Howell
was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice O’Connor. He was committed to the Allegany County
Jail on $50,000.00 cash bail or $100,000.00 property bond. Howell is due back in Wellsville Village
Court on February 19th at 4:30 p.m.
