Frank D. Howe, 94, of Bradenton (FL), formerly of Painted Post,
NY, died November 29, 2018. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his
family. Born in Batavia, NY, on April 15, 1924, he moved from Painted Post to
Dundee in 1978, where he and his wife, Barbara, enjoyed summers at Keuka Lake
and eventually (1981) winters in Bradenton, Florida. Frank graduated from
Horseheads, NY high school in 1943. He was drafted into the US Coast Guard, and
served on the USS Mills (DE-383) which participated, along with the USS
Missouri, when Japan surrendered marking the end of WWII. On his return he
married Arlene (Held) on June 29, 1946. He enrolled and continued his education
at Cornell University, and then began working at Ingersoll-Rand in 1948, where
he was a Development Engineer. While working at I-R, Frank submitted 35 Patent
Applications, was the Chief Designer for the Air Power Division, and
instrumental in designing the LLE and YHE compressors. He retired in 1985,
working at I-R for 37 years. Frank continued on for 3 years after his
retirement, serving as a consultant. He was a former member of First Presbyterian
Church of Painted Post and Penn Yan, NY and he attended First Presbyterian
Church of Bradenton, FL. Frank was a man who loved life. He had many talents
and hobbies, i.e., an avid card player, dancing, pitching horseshoes and oil
painting to name a few. He played golf well into his 94th year. Frank and Barbara hosted numerous family
celebrations at their home on Keuka Lake, sometimes having 35-40 people for a
week at a time, making wonderful memories for their children and grandchildren.
Frank’s passing will leave a hole in the hearts of many.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ethan and Wilhilmina
(Lutz) Howe; his first wife of 29 years, Arlene (Held) Howe and his second wife of 39 years, Barbara
(Baylor) Howe; sister, Dorothy Goodrich,
and brother, George Howe; he is survived by his sons, Daniel (Kim) of
Whitesville, NY, David (Cindy) of Alexander, NY, daughters, Sharon (Jack)
DuCharme of Woodstock, GA, and Sharlotte
(Tom) Way of Lebanon, OH; sister, Esther Hall of Frostproof, FL; 16
Grandchildren and 19 Great grandchildren. Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m.
