DWI and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance Arrests

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 5th, 2018, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Steven R. McQuaid, age 18 of Glen Avenue, Corning New York and Brandon C. McCarn, age 25, of Sterling Street, Corning, New York. Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a retail location on West Pulteney Street and stopped a vehicle matching the description on West William Street, Corning, New York. It is alleged that Mr. McQuaid operated the motor vehicle on West William Street in an intoxicated condition. It is further alleged that Mr. McQuaid and Mr. McCarn possessed methamphetamine. Mr. McQuaid was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Mr. McCarn was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Both Mr. McQuaid and Mr. McCarn were released on appearance tickets to appear in Corning City Court on January 15th, 2019.

Criminal Mischief and Criminal Contempt Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 14, 2018, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested April M. Sly, age 42, of Corning, New York, following an investigation into a domestic incident that was reported to have occurred on Maple Street in the Village of Canisteo, New York. It is alleged that Ms. Sly damaged property at that location and violated a stay away order of protection. Ms. Sly was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree. Ms. Sly was arraigned in Canisteo Village Court and released on her own recognizance.

DWI Arrests

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 14, 2018, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Clifford W. Stermer, age 19, of Knoxville Pennsylvania. It is alleged that Mr. Stermer operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition on Mill Street in Woodhull, New York. Mr. Stermer was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving with a .08% or more blood alcohol content and unregistered motor vehicle, switched license plates, operating with no insurance, unlicensed operator, uninspected motor vehicle and inadequate exhaust. Mr. Stermer was released on traffic summons to appear in Woodhull Town Court at a later date.

On December 15, 2018, deputies arrested Gregory J. Washburn–Vandermark, age 23, of Corning, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Washburn-Vandermark operated a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition on Tioga Avenue, Corning, New York. Mr. Washburn-Vandermark was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with .18% or more blood alcohol content. Mr. Washburn-Vandermark was released on traffic summons to appear in Corning City Court at a later date.

Misuse of Food Stamps Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 18, 2018, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicolas Marquez, age 33, and Nicole Sullivan, age 29, of Chestnut Street, Bath, New York. It is alleged that in April 2018, Ms. Sullivan transferred a Steuben County Department of Social Service benefit card issued to her to Mr. Marquez. Then in May 2018, Mr. Marquez used Ms. Sullivan’s issued benefit card while she was incarcerated at the Chemung County Jail. As a result Mr. Marquez obtained benefits which he was not entitled nor authorized to receive. Mr. Marquez and Ms. Sullivan are both charged with one count each of Misuse of Food Stamps, a class A misdemeanor in violation of New York State Social Service Law. Both were issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
