HOUGHTON, NY - April 16, 2018 – Dustin Woodard, instructor of percussion at Houghton College, was recently published in ChorTeach, an online magazine run through the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).
The article, titled “Percussion for Choral Directors” was written as a way to help choir directors work with a percussion section. Woodard writes on several topics, including stick and mallet choices, how to talk to percussionists, and tips on how best to lead percussionists in the context of a choral rehearsal.
“This is a topic that I am very passionate about. I am excited to help choral conductors understand the anomaly that is the percussion section,” he remarks.
Woodard is also instructor of percussion at Alfred University and the principal percussionist of the Southern Tier Symphony. He performs throughout Western New York with various high school and collegiate ensembles, as well as performs at churches and musical theatre events. Woodard has been published in Percussive Notes, School Music News, and The Instrumentalist.
ACDA is a nonprofit music education organization that seeks to advance and inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.
