Legislative Chairman Curt Crandall Issues Statement on Dresser-Rand Announcement

Earlier this week, Siemens announced that they plan to move their commercial work to their Charlotte, NC, facility over the next 12 to 18 months.  They also announced that they have sold the government side of their operations to Curtiss-Wright, and the transition of these employees to another facility will be over the next 24 months.
On behalf of our entire Legislature, Curt Crandall, Chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators, stated, “First and foremost, that our thoughts and prayers are with the workforce and their families. News like this is very unsettling to those workers that have planned a career at a company such as Dresser-Rand, a Siemens Business, in Wellsville.  These folks are established in Allegany County, it’s their home. They are our friends and neighbors, and we care deeply for them. Many of these employees are second and third generations working at the facility.  Secondly, we are reaching out to any resources we can to see what can be done to retain work at the facility and quickly put in place other alternative sources that are looking for a well-established, skilled workforce. We want to retain as many of these workers as possible and keep them here at home in Allegany County.”
Craig Clark, Executive Director of the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency, stated, “The ACIDA is fully engaged to ensure that everything possible will be done to guarantee that a positive outcome arises from the Siemen’s announcement. We are working with Congressman Reed, Senator Schumer, Senator Young, Assemblymen Giglio, and others along with representatives at Siemens and Curtiss-Wright to address concerns and work toward a solution that will mitigate the loss of a core business to the community. We also are engaging with Mayor Shayler, Empire State Development, Invest Buffalo Niagara, and Site Selectors, whom we have been working with since 2016, regarding this issue.  Finding a way to continue to have similar high-paying advanced manufacturing jobs in the Siemens facility will take time and the cooperation of all parties.”
