Wellsville: Town makes $21,000 error in Sinclair Water District tax levy
When you make an error, the best thing to do is admit it...own it...fix it and move on. That's exactly what Wellsville's new Supervisor did Wednesday night. "There's no excuse," said Shad Alsworth. "I didn't catch it," he added. What Alsworth missed happened last year when he was a town board member. That something was a $21,437 error in the tax levy for the Sinclair Water District. That district only includes two parcels, located on County Road 44, just south of South Brooklyn Avenue. The parcels include the Wellsville campus of Alfred State College (owned by the Alfred Educational Foundation) and National Fuel Gas. Alsworth said the levy "should have been considerably less." He said he's working with county officials to develop a plan to correct the problem. Alsworth said the Educational Foundation already said it had no intention of paying the misguided tax.
