Wellsville: Alsworth elevated to Town Supervisor; Fanton returns to town board

For the second time in a week, Shad Alsworth takes the Oath of Office -
this time for Town Supervisor
The Wellsville town board Wednesday night appointed Shad Alsworth as its new Town Supervisor. However, before that happened, he had to resign as a town board member. He submitted his letter of resignation effective at 7:01 p.m. today. He was then told he needed to leave the board table. He walked no more than 30 paces before the board appointed him Supervisor...and he returned to his seat.
Alsworth, who served on the town council, did not seek re-election last year. He was appointed to fill a vacancy last Wednesday. That appointment lasted seven days.

The board then appointed former council member and supervisor Darwin Fanton to fill Alsworth's seat on the board. The appointment ends December 31, 2018. The board said Fanton agreed to serve for the remainder of the year, but reportedly indicated he was not interested in seeking election in November. Whoever chooses to run, will serve for one year to fill the remainder of the term for the seat.
Fanton wasn't the only one interested in serving. Before the vacancy was filled, former village trustee Mike Roeske addressed the board and said "I'd like to be appointed...please consider me for an appointment." Alsworth, who endorsed Fanton for the job, suggested that Roeske and others who are interested to run in November.
After Alsworth was sworn in as supervisor, he then outlined changes in town appointments that had been approved just last week by former supervisor Donald "Tink" LaForge. The board unanimously approved the changes.
