Holiday Prayer is Focus of Allegany County Churches

Allegany County churches involved in the Journey to Transformation communities initiative are highlighting several prayer activities this weekend to remind residents not to forget prayer during the hustle and bustle of the holidays season and to renew focus on the birth of Jesus Christ and the real meaning of Christmas. Genesis Bible Church, 4193 State Route 19 South, Belmont (Scio), will host a regular Friday night community prayer from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. December 8. These weekly, rotating locations focus on host, community and county churches and Christian service organizations, along with transformation within Allegany County and beyond.
This month's Sunday night Journey to Transformation prayer and praise and worship gathering, with live music, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. December 10 at The Presbyterian Church, 68 North Main Street, Wellsville.  This regular twice-a-month public gathering, also at different locations, focuses on renewal of minds and hearts of individuals and families for county and communities transformation.  This activity only will be held once in December due to Christmas.
The interdenominational, intergenerational and multicultural movement provides a communities emphasis on combating issues of addiction, abuse, racism, suicide, poverty, family dysfunction and more that pastors say are extremely serious issues throughout this area, the United States and the world.
Gatherings often emphasize prayer for specific subjects such as schools, the opioid and heroin epidemic, families, and veterans and current military.
From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9, the Powerhouse Youth Center, 23 West Main Street, Fillmore, will host its weekly prayer gathering for community and personal concerns, with ongoing area prayer gatherings also available from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. each weekday morning at Knights Creek Evangelical Methodist Church, 2987 County Road 9 (Knights Creek Road), Scio, and 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesdays at the Belfast Free Methodist Church, 11 Chestnut Street.
