North Hornell-based State Police have charged a Canisteo man
with multiple weapons related offenses after he was allegedly found to be in
possession of a rifle and two illegally possessed daggers. Joseph A. Carter, age 23, of 30 Maple St. Canisteo
was charged with two counts of Criminal
Possession of a Weapon, 3rd degree (class “D” felonies) and one count of
Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 4th degree (class “A” misdemeanor). State Police Senior Investigator Curt Easton
told us that Troopers and members of the Canisteo Police Department accompanied
the Steuben County Probation Department to Carter’s residence, after
information was developed indicating that Carter was allegedly in possession of
weapons. Carter was on probation for a
previous conviction for felony burglary.
Carter was arraigned in the Village of Canisteo Court and remanded to
the Steuben Co. Jail in lieu of $50,000.00 cash bail/$100,000.00 property
bond. He is scheduled to reappear in
court at a later date.
