Repairs, Town of Pulteney, Steuben County
The New York State Department of Transportation today announced an update to the schedule for emergency slope repairs at two sites on state Route 54A in the town of Pulteney.
Work on the first site, located approximately 7.5 miles north of Hammondsport, is substantially complete and the highway has been reopened in both directions. There is a temporary gravel surface at this work location.
Work on the second site, located approximately 11.5 miles north of Hammondsport, has begun with traffic reduced to one lane with flagger guidance during work operations. Full closure of the road will be required for some portion of the work and has been delayed one week due to the anticipated tropical storm passing through the area. The full road closure is expected to go into effect on or about Monday, October 16, and will be between two and three weeks’ duration. While the road is closed, the work will be active during daylight hours, seven days per week. After the work requiring full closure is completed, one lane operation will be restored while finishing work is done. Completion of the work at this site is expected during the first week of November.
Traffic during the road closure at the second site will be directed to a detour using Boyd Hill Road, Yates CR 33, and Italy Hill Road. It is anticipated that all work will be completed by the first week of November. Variable Message Signs in the area will give road users advance notice of the work and provide timely updates as the road status changes.
When the landslide repair work is completed, the normal asphalt driving surface will be restored at both work sites.
