ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure students will be kicking off Family Weekend with a big splash Friday, Sept. 22.
The Third Annual Polar Spray to benefit Special Olympics New York will begin on the 22nd with registration at 4 p.m. on the outdoor basketball courts between the Sandra A. and William L. Richter Center and the Reilly Center. At 5 p.m., participants will be sprayed by a fire hose courtesy of volunteer firefighters with the Allegany Fire Department.
The fundraising event is sponsored by the St. Bonaventure women’s swimming and diving team and Physical Activity Club (PAC) with assistance by students in two sections of the SBU 101 course. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics programs in Western New York, including the annual clinics and unified basketball competition at the university. Organizers are also planning to donate a percentage of their proceeds to Special Olympics programs in Texas and Florida.
Participants are encouraged to raise at least $20 to receive an official Polar Spray T-shirt. Register ahead of time online at http://events.nyso.org/ 2017PolarSpray. Participants and spectators from the public are welcome.
This will be the first of two polar events SBU students will participate in this semester. Students are also gathering a team for the Dec. 2 Polar Plunge at Woodlawn Beach State Park in Buffalo. Registration and other details will be announced later this fall.
