MILLPORT, Pa.- Marie E. Austin, 77, of Millport, passed
away on Thursday, September 21, 2017, in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport,
after a lengthy illness. Born on November 27, 1939 in Shinglehouse, she was a
daughter of Roy and Adah Welton Kemp. On
May 10, 1956 in Shinglehouse, she married Daniel N. “Dan” Austin, Sr., who
survives. Marie attended Shinglehouse schools.
She, along with her husband, still own and operate the family dairy
farm, which they have for many years. In
addition to the farm, she was also employed at the former Double U Truck Stop
and Restaurant in Ceres, N.Y., was employed as a chambermaid at the former
Castle Inn in Olean, and later Marie worked at Burger King in Olean, at the
former Burger King in Shinglehouse, and also at the former Deb’s Diner in
Shinglehouse.
Marie loved family bonfires, watching family home videos,
mowing her yard, and going for Jeep rides.
Her greatest love was her family. Surviving besides her husband of 61
years are three children, Daniel N. (Elaine) Austin, Jr. of Shinglehouse, and
Merle E. (Hannah) Austin and Christene M. Mark) Gibble, both of Millport; many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma (Clint) O’Shaughnessy
of Kirkville, N.Y. and Marjorie (Winfield) Babcock of East Syracuse, N.Y.; and
many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by a
daughter, Charlene Louise Austin; four sisters, Doris Taylor, Janice MacDuffie,
Diane Stocking, Ruth Persing; and two brothers, infant Robert Kemp and Edwin
“Buster” Kemp. Friends may call on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m.
at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where
funeral services will follow at 3 p.m/ with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor
of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Chrystal Cemetery. In lieu
