Belmont, NY - Mary C. Bogan, 89, of 23 Trianna Street, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Olean General Hospital with her family at her side. She was born on January 26, 1928 in Hornell, the daughter of John F. and Mary “Gertrude” (Brown) Canty. On August 25, 1951 at St. Mary’s Church in Belmont, she married Robert V. Bogan who predeceased her on March 8, 1999.
Mary was a graduate of Belmont Central School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Empire State College and a Masters Degree in Education and Counseling from Alfred University. She was employed by both the Erie and Allegany County’s Department of Health, as a Public Health Nurse. She later became the School Nurse-Teacher for Belmont Central School for 27 years. After retirement, she became a Reservist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and responded to natural disasters in the U.S. and its Territories
She is survived by two sons, William (Nanci) Bogan of Batavia, and John C. Bogan of Belmont, one daughter, Ellen McNinch of Belmont, six grandchildren, Jill (Timothy) Simko, Harry (Erica) McNinch IV, William Bogan II, Staci (Josh) Finn, Sara Bogan and Christopher (Rebecca) Bogan, eight great grandchildren, Jordan and Amelia Simko, Robert and Alyssa McNinch, William Bogan III, Madison and Morgan Finn and Lyndzi Jo Bogan, a sister-in-law, Patricia “Patsy” Kicher of Yorkville, IN, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four first cousins, Jane (Mullen) Walsh, Kathryn (Canty) Karst, Daniel Canty and John Brown Sr.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 6th at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church in Belmont. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
