Obituary: Joseph B. "Joe" Gormley, 91, Belfast
Joseph B. "Joe" Gormley, 91, of 20 South St.
passes away unexpectedly Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his home. Born September
14, 1926 in Belfast, he was the son of Arthur and Bernice Gleason Gormley. On
July 5, 1952, he married the former Maureen Davenport, who survives.Joe had resided all of his life in Belfast. He attended the
Belfast Central School and later was employed at Clark Bros. Machine Shop in
Wellsville for a short period of time. During WW2 Joseph served as a veteran.
For the next 42 years he was employed at the Erie Lackawanna Railroad retiring
in 1987. Joe enjoyed traveling. He and his wife traveled in all the United
States, Hawaii, Alaska, Disney World, England and Scotland. He also enjoyed
hunting, fishing and wood crafting. Most of all he loved spending time with his
family.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Belfast
and the Steel Workers Union.
Surviving besides his wife Maureen are two daughters,
Laureen B. (Edwin) Stevenson of Holland, NY and Colleen J. (Wayne) Robbins of
Belfast; four grandchildren, Edwin Jr., Kathleen, Curtis and Shane; six great
grandchildren; two step sisters, Georgia Christ and Lynette Wahl both of
Rochester; and a step brother, Gerry Gormley of PA.
Joe was predeceased by two brothers; two sisters; and a
great granddaughter.
A Funeral Service
will be held Friday, September 22, at 1:00 p.m. at the Treusdell Funeral home,
Belfast. Kevin Lafferty of Buffalo will officiate. Memorials may be made to the
Belfast Rescue Squad.
