To the Editor:
The following was sent by me today to the Sheriff in response to the issues surrounding the Replacement of the Counties 911 CAD System
Dear Sheriff Whitney:
As you know I have no problem pointing a finger, asking tough questions and/or demanding answers. Especially, when information I’ve received is confirmed by multiple sources and impacts the financial stability of our County. Please know I’m only trying to do the job I was elected to by the people.
Please also know I can admit when I am wrong.
In short I was lead to believe, from what I honestly thought were reliable sources, that the current CAD systems failure was our fault. The allegation was that we failed to update and/or do what the vendor needed us to do to maximize the longevity of that system.
Prior to our monthly board meeting today, Monday, September 11, 2017, through an authoritative source independent of our County Government, I now know the truth. My sources of information, although on the ladder looking up, saw what they saw without knowing completely what the person(s) above was/were doing. I can relate to that because I have been on the bottom and top rungs of that ladder and have been the victim of same. I make no excuse for what they offered me. I believe they were well intended but miss informed.
The bottom line is that I now know, through a source competent to advise me, that the fault does not lie within your agency. The “fault” appears to lie elsewhere. Hopefully, the County Attorney, can find a remedy that makes Allegany County whole again. In whole or in part.
Please also know I will provide corrected information to all of my sources as well as publish the facts as I now know them to be true.
If anything I have said or published caused you or one of your employees distress I apologize for that inconvenience. Again, I only had the best interest of my constituency at heart. Had I known what I now know, when this issue was first brought up, I would not have had to engage you or anyone else in this discussion.
Sincerely,
Karl Graves
Legislator, District IV
