State Police investigate death of U.S. Olympic bobsledder

On May 6, 2017, at approximately 1:48 p.m., State Police responded to a report of an unresponsive athlete at the Olympic Training Center Dormitory, 196 Old Military Road in Lake Placid. Steven P. Holcomb, 37, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was found deceased in his room. Holcomb was a member of the U.S Bobsled Team and trained regularly in Lake Placid.

Holcomb’s body was removed to the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake where an autopsy was performed on May 7, 2017, by Dr. C. Francis Varga. The manner of death is pending toxicology.
