Steuben legislators tour 911 Center

The county Legislature gave its preliminary endorsement Monday to a local law to allow the 30-cent wireless surcharge to include prepaid cell phones and added to 911 centers’ revenues. New state legislation calls for a portion of the surcharge to be given to counties for use in their 911 operations. A public hearing on the local law and a final vote are expected in August. Steuben’s 911 Center has been in operation for more than 12 years.
