PA: Genesee garage destroyed, home damaged in fire

Nine fire departments from two states battled a blaze Thursday afternoon in Genesee. First Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Inzana said fire crews were dispatched to 145 North Genesee Street, near the fire station. Inzana said the garage and a vehicle were destroyed and a near by home sustained damage. The damage, while not severe, was enough to bring in the Red Cross to relocate the family for at least the night. "Getting water was the biggest problem," said Inzana. The fire was brought under control within an hour, but there was a need for a significant mutual aid response. Inzana, who was the scene commander, said extra help was called in from Ulysses, Harrison Valley, Whitesville, Willing, Wellsville, Alma, Scio and Andover. No injuries were reported and the family was not home when the flames broke out. The Fire Marshal will respond on Friday to determine the cause. Inzana took a moment to thank all mutual aid agencies for their response.
