Steuben County Recognizes Dedicated Father-Daughter Duo in EMS and Fire Services Amidst Challenging Times

March 3, 2025 – Steuben County, NY – As Steuben County continues to face increasing demands for emergency medical services (EMS) support, the dedication of local heroes has never been more apparent. This week, in celebration of Women in EMS and Fire Week, we are proud to recognize a remarkable father-daughter duo who embody the spirit of service to the community—Tim and Tara Thompson of Woodhull.

Since July 2, 2024, Steuben County has been supplementing its EMS services to address a growing need, including a response time challenge in many rural areas. The situation was further complicated by the devastating flooding that impacted Steuben County in 2024, especially in the Woodhull area. It is here, in the heart of our rural communities, that Tim and Tara Thompson have been making a profound difference.

Tim Thompson – With 35 years of EMS experience, Tim has been a steadfast member of Steuben County EMS since 1989. Having started his EMS career with Corning Ambulance, Tim’s passion for helping others has spanned decades. His dedication to providing critical care to his neighbors is unwavering. When Steuben County faced staffing shortages, Tim saw a need in Woodhull and stepped up to ensure that his community received the same level of emergency care as any urban area. An EMT based in Woodhull, Tim balances his demanding role with a love for the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Tara Thompson – Following in her father’s footsteps, Tara Thompson has spent seven years in EMS and fire services. As an EMT with Steuben County, Tara is deeply committed to her community, with a particular focus on rural areas. Tara’s favorite part of her job is engaging with the community, offering a helping hand, and providing care to those in need. "I love being involved in the community and being there for people when they need it most," says Tara. Outside of work, she enjoys boating, spending time with family, and crafting.

The Thompsons’ dedication is an inspiration to many, particularly as Steuben County continues to adapt to the growing demand for emergency services. The recent floods served as a stark reminder of the critical role EMS and fire services play in rural communities, and both Tim and Tara answered the call, serving tirelessly alongside Steuben County EMS to help their neighbors in need.

Brandon Rosetti, Steuben County EMS Coordinator, comments, "We are making a significant impact on rural communities in Steuben County, filling the gaps where resources have been scarce. Our efforts are essential in ensuring that all pockets of our county receive the care and attention they deserve, especially in times of crisis.."

The father-daughter duo’s combined 42 years of experience in EMS and fire are a testament to the power of family, service, and commitment. Together, Tim and Tara Thompson represent the heart and soul of Steuben County’s EMS and fire services—ensuring that no one is left behind, no matter how remote or underserved the area.

Steuben County is proud to honor Tim and Tara Thompson during this special week and is grateful for their unyielding commitment to the safety and well-being of their community. We thank them, and all our dedicated EMS and fire professionals, for their service and unwavering dedication.
