Obituary: Glen Earl Bullock, 77, Troupsburg, formerly of Jasper

Glen Earl Bullock, 77, of McNeil Road, Troupsburg, formerly of Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

 Born in Hornell on June 12, 1943, Glen was the son of the late Ralph A. and Myrtle A. (Griffith) Bullock. Raised in Jasper, he was a 1961 graduate of Jasper Central School. He later did course work at Corning Community College and Alfred State College.

Glen was a third-generation businessman in Jasper. His grandfather started Bullock’s Hardware in Jasper which passed to Glen’s father Ralph and eventually on to Glen. He was involved with the business for 60 years, starting as a teenager where he opened the store mornings and returned after school to help. 

On July 8, 1967, he and the former Irene Johnson were married at the Hedgesville Presbyterian Church. She worked alongside Glen daily in the hardware business. 

Glen was very involved in his beloved home town. He was a longtime President of the Jasper Cemetery Assoc. and he and Irene were members of the United Church of Jasper, where Glen served as Chairman of the Trustees for many years. He was a member and Past Master of the Robinson Lodge F & AM in Jasper and the Jasper OES Chapter where he was a Past Patron. He was a District Grand Officer in 1980.

Glen served on the Jasper-Troupsburg School Board and the Steuben – Allegany BOCES Board for over 20 years. He was also a former member of the Jasper Fire Department and had served as a Commissioner of the Jasper Fire District. He was an active member of the Canisteo Rotary Club for many years and had been a member of the former Hedgesville Grange.

Glen is survived by his wife and best friend, Irene Bullock of Troupsburg, his children and their spouses, Zoran and Shelly Bullock of Newfield, NY, Amber and Steve Lamont of Simpsonville, SC, Cameron “Mitch” and Rachel Bullock of Troupsburg, Eben and Kerri Bullock of Port Crane, NY and Glen “Chip” and Brittany Bullock of Chichester, NH, his grandchildren, Benjamin Lamont, Grace Lamont, Johanna Lamont, Byron Bullock, Roman Bullock, Brendan Bullock, Kaylee Bullock, Colton Bullock and Ledger Bullock, his sister, Joanne (Clifford) Gray of Owego, NY, his mother in law, Elaine “Happy” Johnson of Cameron Mills, his sisters in law, Ann Murphy of Cameron Mills and Ruth (Harold) Creeley of Painted Post, along with several nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Myrtle Bullock, his father-in-law, Ralph Johnson and his dear grandfather Glen.

Friends may call on Saturday, January 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the United Church of Jasper. A private memorial service will follow visitation with Pastor Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
