Santa will be welcoming visitors at the Stone Family Light Display in Bolivar Friday and Saturday

BOLIVAR – Santa Claus will be visiting the Stone Family Holiday Light Show this weekend. Kids can get a stuffed animal, talk to Santa, or have their photos taken with that Jolly Old Elf from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Since 2003 Char and Fred Stone along with some family and friends have been filling their land located between Bolivar and Little Genesee with a Christmas light display. This year the display fills up nearly two acres and features everything from flying pigs to a nativity scene.

There is a little bit of everything,” Stone said.

The couple gets busy in September laying out the design with Char deciding where certain exhibits will be placed and Fred doing the wiring and making sure they don’t trip an electrical breaker. It is a little different each year, she says.

The display opens after Thanksgiving and is turned off the night of December 31st. Taking down the display starts the next day. The Stones do have some help from friends and family. This year they received help from Ben and Brenda Villa who helped make signs.

This year two giant blue candles light the way to the display. Visitors are asked not to get out of their cars while they drive slowly up and down county Route 5C to view the inflatables, molded, and light displays. There are cows and dogs, angels and snowmen, Santa’s flying sleigh, hot air balloons, trains and more.

Those who visit the display can tune their car radios to 88.1 for children’s Christmas carols. And new this year is an adult station with more contemporary tunes at 104.7 on the dial.

Everyone always asks why we do it Char said.

“We just like Christmas lights. We always have and over the years we just got more and more of them. It is wonderful to see all the people enjoying the lights and this year it is more important than ever,” she explained.

Char and Fred Stone invite everyone to come and see their Christmas Light Display evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. There is no cost, but donations are welcomed.
