Effective November 23, 2020 the Allegany County Department of Motor Vehicles will no longer take walk-in appointments for DMV transactions. All appointments will be booked electronically at alleganycountydmv.setmore.com. We will open additional blocks for appointments to try and relieve the pent-up demand for DMV transactions. We will have three open stations during normal business hours. Public appointments will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
OTHER CHANGES AT THE DMV:
- Drop-off basket in the County Clerk’s office. All transactions must be in a sealed envelope. We will mail you the completed transaction or receipts upon completion. Make sure you have signed all forms or renewals. We can only accept checks in the drop-off basket.
- Plate returns will be a no fee transaction. Drop them off at the basket in the Clerk’s office. Make sure you let us know who to send the receipt (FS6) to.
- Dealer and mailed transactions will be processed from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Completing dealer paperwork will depend on the number of transactions and backlog. We will call the dealers when the transactions have been completed. There will be no general public appointments during this time.
- DMV appointment call center: All calls pertaining to the DMV appointment system will be answered at the County Clerk’s Office. If you don’t have a computer to book the online appointment, we can assist and schedule your date and time. When you dial (585) 268-9267 hit prompt 1 for appointment assistance.
- DMV employees will answer all
other questions. If you dial (585) 268-9267 and hit
prompt 2, you will be forwarded to a DMV employee for all questions that do
not deal with appointments. We encourage individuals to go to
the New York State DMV website at dmv.ny.gov
for further information relating to DMV requirements and transactions.
With the high transaction tempo at the DMV office, we must prioritize the
customer at the window. This may
cause some issues with answering your calls.
