BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 35 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total to 1,713 confirmed cases, 245 of which are currently active. The individuals are residents of the:
· City of Corning (4)
· City of Hornell (4)
· Town of Bath (4)
· Town of Campbell (2)
· Town of Caton (2)
· Town of Corning (4)
· Town of Erwin (3)
· Town of Hornellsville (2)
· Town of Lindley (2)
· Town of West Union
· Village of Bath
· Village of Hammondsport
· Village of North Hornell (2)
· Village of South Corning
· Village of Wayland (2)
The individuals are isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department. Public Health staff investigated and identified close contacts of the confirmed cases and exposure risks. All those known to have direct contact with the individuals have been notified.
Per CDC and New York State Department of Health guidance, information is collected beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or date of test if asymptomatic through the day of the positive test result to identify any potential exposure risks.
The investigations indicate:
· 8 individuals are contacts to previously reported positives
· One individual is a resident of Absolut Care Three Rivers
· One individual is a resident of Edlerwood at Hornell
· One individual is residing at Corning Center for rehab
· One individual is an employee of Oak Hill Manor in Ithaca
· One individual is an employee of the Arc of Steuben
· Three individuals are employees of Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
· Four individuals returned from states with high infection rates
· One individual is a student of the VEW Primary School in Bath
In addition to the locations noted above, the individuals reported visiting the following locations that could pose an exposure risk within their investigation timeframes:
· 11/12 – Hornellsville Town Court
· 11/12, 11/13, 11/16 – 11/18 – Town of Bath Highway Department
· 11/13 – Electri-Cord Manufacturing Co. in Westfield, PA
· 11/13 – Strobels Supply in Hornell
· 11/16 – 11/18 – Village of North Hornell Public Works Department
· 11/17 – 11/20, 11/23 – Applebee’s in Hornell
· 11/18, 11/19 – Alstom in Hornell
· 11/18, 11/23 – Meals on Wheels in Corning
· 11/19 – Spritz Hair and Nails in Painted Post
· 11/19 – Lions Club Meeting at the Radisson
· 11/20 – CAF USA in Elmira Heights
· 11/23 – Hilliard Corporation in Elmira
Today’s age groups for the positives are as follows:
· 0 – 9 years: 2
· 10 – 19 years: 2
· 20 – 29 years: 1
· 30 – 39 years: 7
· 40 – 49 years: 2
· 50 – 59 years: 10
· 60 – 69 years: 6
· 70 – 79 years: 2
· 80 – 89 years: 2
· 90 – 99 years: 1
“This holiday weekend could be pivotal in the number of cases in Steuben,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “If families are prudent and keep the gathering to household members, we may finally see a decrease in cases. If gatherings include multiple households, people who have traveled in, or those who are supposed to be quarantined, cases could skyrocket. The cases already are higher than what we would hope to see. Help our community bring the rate down.”
All residents should continue to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell and contact their healthcare provider for instructions if feeling ill.
