Firefighters from 9 departments, two counties battle Rushford house fire on Thanksgiving Day

 Firefighters from nine departments from Allegany and Cattaraugus counties were pressed in to service when flames consumed a Town of Rushford home. The alarm sounded at 3:44 a.m. sending crews to 9508 Cream Ridge Road. When the first fire chief arrived, he told 911 it was a working house fire. Volunteers and equipment responded from Rushford, Centerville, Farmersville, Lyndon, Franklinville, New Hudson, Houghton, Fillmore and Belfast. According to tax records, the ranch style home was constructed in 1993 and was valued at $80,500. The owners were listed as Donald and Kristine Worthington. The American Red Cross was requested to help the occupants. Firefighters remained on scene for more than five hours, finally returning to service at 9:13 a.m. The cause is under investigation.
